ABOUT DR. KITSIOS
Choosing an orthopaedic surgeon is a decision built on trust. Every patient deserves to know not only their doctor's qualifications and experience, but also the philosophy that guides every clinical decision.
My training in Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology was shaped through practice at some of Greece's leading referral hospitals. I completed my specialist training at Asklipieio General Hospital of Voula, the Sports Injuries Department of KAT General Hospital, and the Thoracic Surgery Department of Sotiria General Hospital, gaining comprehensive experience in the management of both traumatic injuries and complex musculoskeletal disorders.
Following the completion of my residency, I was awarded a competitive postgraduate scholarship to undertake advanced fellowship training at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, United Kingdom. There, I specialised in shoulder and elbow surgery, working alongside experienced surgeons and participating in the management of complex upper-limb conditions using contemporary surgical techniques.
Upon returning to Greece, along with my private practise, I served as a Scientific Associate at the Sports Injuries Department of KAT General Hospital, where I continued to manage sports injuries and complex conditions mainly of the knee joint.
I firmly believe that continuous education is a professional responsibility. Throughout my career I have therefore pursued additional postgraduate training in complementary fields that enhance diagnostic accuracy and expand therapeutic options. My qualifications include certification in Ackermann Osteopathy and Chiropractic, a two-year postgraduate programme in Medical Acupuncture (Acuscience), and specialised training in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound through a course developed by the University of Vienna.
I am currently pursuing an M.Sc. in Precision Medicine at the Hellenic Open University. Precision Medicine represents the future of healthcare by integrating scientific evidence with each patient's individual characteristics, allowing treatment decisions to become increasingly personalised, accurate and effective.
Modern orthopaedics does not begin in the operating theatre. It begins with making the right diagnosis.
Every patient is unique, with different expectations, functional demands and personal goals. For this reason, I believe that every treatment plan should be carefully tailored to the individual rather than based on a standardised approach.
Whenever appropriate, priority should be given to evidence-based conservative and minimally invasive treatments, including regenerative therapies, with the aim of relieving pain, restoring function and, whenever possible, delaying or avoiding surgery.
When surgery represents the best available treatment, it should be performed for the right indication, at the right time, and with meticulous attention to detail, always guided by current scientific evidence and the patient's long-term wellbeing.
My commitment is to provide every patient with a comprehensive evaluation, honest medical advice and a personalised treatment strategy based on scientific excellence, clinical experience and the latest advances in orthopaedic care.
I believe that the best outcomes are achieved when clinical expertise, innovation and genuine patient-centred care come together. That philosophy continues to guide every decision I make, with one ultimate goal: helping each patient return to a life with less pain, better function and greater confidence.
MY APPROACH
Every patient needs careful clinical evaluation and a full explanation of the available options.
Treatment is tailored to the person’s true needs, rather than applying one solution to everyone.
Evidence-based conservative and minimally invasive treatments come first. Surgery is used when it is the best solution.
